Abstrak

Penelitian ini mengkaji kompetensi linguistik guru bahasa Inggris dan pemanfaatannya dalam praktik pembelajaran di SMP Negeri 1 Denpasar. Kompetensi linguistik dipahami sebagai penguasaan sistem bahasa Inggris pada tataran fonologi, morfologi, sintaksis, semantik, pragmatik, dan sosiolinguistik, sekaligus kemampuan mengubah penguasaan tersebut menjadi keputusan pedagogis di kelas sebuah konstruk yang dalam literatur dikenal sebagai teacher language awareness. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan deskriptif kualitatif dengan dukungan data kuantitatif sederhana. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket kesadaran bahasa, tes pengetahuan kebahasaan, observasi kelas terstruktur, analisis dokumen perencanaan pembelajaran, dan wawancara semi-terstruktur, kemudian dianalisis dengan model interaktif Miles, Huberman, dan Saldaña serta diuji keabsahannya melalui triangulasi sumber dan metode. Temuan diarahkan pada tiga hal: profil penguasaan tiap subkomponen linguistik, wujud pemanfaatannya dalam perencanaan dan pelaksanaan pembelajaran, serta faktor pendukung dan penghambatnya dalam konteks kelas multibahasa Bali. Artikel ditutup dengan rekomendasi pengembangan keprofesian berkelanjutan yang berbasis kesadaran bahasa, bukan semata berbasis metode.
