Socio-emotional development in early childhood is a fundamental foundation that determines the quality of children's lives in subsequent developmental stages. One of the most influential factors in shaping children's socio-emotional competence is the parenting skills applied by parents or primary caregivers. This study aims to analyze the role of parenting skills in enhancing the socio-emotional development of early childhood through a literature review of various scientific publications indexed in reputable databases. The method used is a literature review with a descriptive-analytical approach. The data sources are Scopus-indexed journal articles published within the last ten years. The results indicate that parenting skills including sensitivity, responsiveness, emotional warmth, positive discipline, and autonomy support contribute significantly to early childhood emotional regulation, social competence, empathy, and prosocial behavior. The authoritative parenting style has proven to be the most effective compared to authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful styles. Furthermore, parenting skill training interventions have been shown to improve the quality of parent-child interactions and reduce both internalizing and externalizing behavior problems in children. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening parenting literacy as a promotive-preventive strategy to optimize early childhood socio-emotional development.
