Advances in digital technology have transformed the learning habits of elementary school students, including their reading habits. The increasing use of gadgets among students has the potential to affect their interest in and ability to read. This study aims to analyze the state of reading literacy among elementary school students in the era of gadget use, identify the factors contributing to low reading literacy, examine the impact of gadget use on students’ reading skills, and describe efforts that can be undertaken to enhance a culture of reading literacy. This study employs a qualitative approach using the literature review method (library research). Data were obtained from various scientific journals, research articles, books, and previous studies relevant to the research topic. Data collection techniques involved documentary and literature reviews, while data analysis utilized content analysis. The study findings indicate that the low reading literacy of elementary school students in the digital age is characterized by a decline in reading interest, a decrease in reading frequency, and a shift toward learning habits that are more oriented toward digital media. Factors influencing this situation include excessive gadget use, a lack of parental guidance, suboptimal implementation of the School Literacy Movement, limited literacy facilities, and a learning environment that does not sufficiently support a reading culture. Gadget use can have a negative impact on reading ability if used primarily for entertainment, but it can also be utilized as an educational tool to support literacy activities. Therefore, improving reading literacy requires strengthening the culture of literacy in schools, the educational use of technology, and family support in fostering students’ reading habits.
