Abstrak

Motivation to learn plays a crucial role in students’ success in school. However, some
students still struggle with motivation, which is often caused by their social environment,
particularly their relationships with peers. This study examines how interactions with peers
influence the motivation of Hindu students in Religious Education and Character Education
classes at SMAN 4 Mataram. This study employs a mixed-methods approach with a
sequential exploratory design using an ex post facto approach. The initial phase was
conducted qualitatively through non-participant observation and documentation to explore
the phenomena occurring. The results indicate that peer interactions influence students’
enthusiasm, engagement, and study habits. The subsequent phase employed a quantitative
approach by distributing a questionnaire to 181 Hindu students at SMAN 4 Mataram. The
study analyzed the data using SPSS, including descriptive and inferential statistics as well as
Spearman’s correlation test. The results showed that peer interactions were rated as good,
with an average score of 77.36, while learning motivation was rated as very good, with an
average score of 65.72. The Spearman correlation coefficient was 0.696 with a significance
level of 0.000, indicating a positive and significant relationship between peer interactions
and learning motivation. This relationship explains 48.4% of the variance in students’
learning motivation.
