Generative AI Policy

Generative AI Policy

Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) and AI-assisted technologies (AI tools) are increasingly being utilized in research and scholarly publishing. These technologies can assist researchers in the manuscript preparation process, such as enhancing language quality, organizing content structure, analyzing initial data, and developing visual frameworks. However, their use in the context of Early Childhood Education (ECE) demands transparency, academic integrity, and high ethical responsibility.

Pratama Widya: Jurnal Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini supports the responsible use of AI, emphasizing that human expertise, scientific judgment, and ethical responsibility must always remain paramount.

Guidelines for Authors

Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation Authors are permitted to use AI to assist in improving grammar, readability, translation, and manuscript structuring. However, AI must not replace critical thinking, field data interpretation, pedagogical evaluation, or the original intellectual contribution of the authors.

Authors hold full responsibility for the entire content of the submitted manuscript, including:

  • Ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of the data.

  • Double-checking all citations and references to avoid fictitious sources (hallucinations).

  • Ensuring that the interpretation of ECE study results represents the authors' original scientific reasoning.

  • Avoiding plagiarism, manipulation of child/research subject data, and copyright infringement.

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive data concerning children, teachers, or ECE institutions involved as research subjects when using AI platforms.

Declaration of AI Use Authors must disclose the use of AI in a dedicated section titled "Declaration of Generative AI in Manuscript Preparation." This declaration must include:

  1. Name of the AI application/tool used.

  2. The developer/providing company.

  3. The purpose of its use in the manuscript.

  4. A statement confirming that the final manuscript has been fully reviewed and approved by the authors.

AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author AI systems cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Responsibility for the manuscript's content, publication approval, and ethical compliance rests solely with human authors.

AI-Assisted Images and Visuals AI-generated visuals may only be used to clarify concepts or as supporting illustrations, not as primary research data or evidence. The use of AI to create conceptual diagrams or research flowcharts must be acknowledged in the figure captions and the AI declaration section.

Guidelines for Reviewers

Reviewers are strictly prohibited from using generative AI to evaluate manuscripts, draft review notes, or make peer-review decisions.

To protect research confidentiality and independent assessment, reviewers must not upload or process confidential manuscripts on external AI platforms. All evaluations must be conducted independently, based on the reviewer's professional judgment and expertise.

Guidelines for Editors

Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of the editorial process. Editors are prohibited from uploading unpublished manuscripts into AI systems that do not guarantee data protection.

AI may only be used to support administrative workflows, such as preliminary grammar checks, similarity scanning (plagiarism checks), or metadata verification. Final decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts are made entirely independently by the editors.

Policy Updates

This policy will be reviewed and updated periodically by the editorial team of Pratama Widya: Jurnal Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini to align with advances in AI technology and international standards for scientific publication ethics.
