Interpersonal communication is the ability to communicate effectively with others, contributing to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates caused by non-use of contraceptives or unmet need among couples of childbearing age. Based on this, the research questions discussed in this study are the forms of interpersonal communication, factors influencing the effectiveness of interpersonal communication, and barriers and solutions. This study aims to increase the interest of unmet need couples in using modern contraceptives through interpersonal communication. The theories used to address these three questions are interpersonal communication theory, health behavior change theory, and persuasive communication theory. This study employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The informant selection technique used purposive sampling, and data analysis used descriptive qualitative techniques with procedures for data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study, in increasing the interest of unmet need couples in using contraceptives, used primary and secondary forms of interpersonal communication, the five laws of communication (REACH), and barriers and solutions, using physical, physiological, psychological, and semantic approaches. This study provides insight into forms of interpersonal communication, factors that influence the effectiveness of interpersonal communication, barriers and effective solutions to increase the interest of unmet need in using contraception so that it can help increase public understanding, especially the unmet need group, regarding the importance of modern contraceptive tools and drugs for family welfare. In this study there are still many limitations so that criticism and suggestions from readers are needed.
