Internalizing Character Education Values ​​Based on Bugis Local Wisdom to Foster Inter-Religious Harmony

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the values ​​of character education based on the local wisdom of the Bugis people in realizing religious harmony. The background is the increasingly complex interconnectedness of life in heterogeneous communities in South Sulawesi, which has the potential to give rise to social and religious conflict. Therefore, a contextual and culturally based approach to character education is needed as a preventative measure in building social harmony. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were obtained from informant interviews as primary data, and various literature sources such as books, scientific journals, and related documents as secondary data.

The results show that local wisdom values ​​are highly relevant to the principles of character education. The Siri' Na Pesse value serves as a moral foundation for maintaining self-respect and empathy for others. The Sipakatau value teaches the importance of humanizing humans. The Sipakalebbi value fosters mutual respect and appreciation. The Sipakainge value emphasizes mutual reminders. The Mali Siparappe and Rebba Sipatokkong values ​​emphasize a spirit of reciprocal cooperation. The Malilu Sipakainge value emphasizes the importance of reminding each other when mistakes or errors are made. In conclusion, character education values ​​based on the local wisdom of the Bugis tribe have great potential in fostering harmony between religious communities. Strengthening and practicing these values ​​is a strategic step in addressing social challenges in a heterogeneous society. This research is expected to provide theoretical and practical contributions to the development of character education based on local wisdom and serve as a reference for further research
