TRADISI SANGKEPAN TILEM SEBAGAI UPAYA PELESTARIAN BUDAYA LOKAL DI DESA ADAT PENGLIPURAN KECAMATAN BANGLI KABUPATEN BANGLI PERSEFEKTIF PENDIDIKAN AGAMA HINDU

Abstrak

Education  plays  a  key  role  in  shaping  human  development  through  the  transmission  of  spiritual, moral, and social values. In Hinduism, education  is not limited  to  formal institutions but is also embedded in traditional and religious practices. One example is the  Sangkepan Tilem tradition in Penglipuran Traditional Village, which involves Malang Sager, a symbolic offering of rice and lawar gerang, as part of its sacred rituals. This study explores three main questions: (1) How the Sangkepan Tilem tradition is practiced in Penglipuran Village, (2) What Hindu educational values are embedded within the tradition, and (3) What impact it has on the local community. The analysis uses Behaviorism Theory by B.F. Skinner and the Theory of Religion by Emile Durkheim, with data collected  through  observation,  interviews,  document  analysis,  and  literature  review.  The  findings show that Sangkepan Tilem is a communal ritual that integrates spiritual and social values. Every stage  of  the  ceremony  reflects  Hindu  teachings  such  as  dharma,  tat  twam  asi,  and  harmony  with nature. Community members participate actively according to their customary roles. The tradition functions as an educational space where values like sradha (faith), bhakti (devotion), and environmental awareness are passed on through active involvement, particularly among the younger generation. Sangkepan Tilem helps strengthen cultural identity, foster social unity, and shape religious character. It also provides educational experiences for visitors and supports the local economy through crafts and cultural activities, making it a vital part of Penglipuran’s spiritual and social sustainability.
