Abstract

This research discussed regarding the teacher’s efforts in developing moderated religious attitude to 7th grades students at SMP Negeri 2 Gianyar. The aim of this research was to know the efforts of the teacher to develop moderated religious attitude at SMP Negeri 2 Gianyar, also to know how far the students understand the concept. Early characters education was important and necessary in the middle of multicultural society in Indonesia to build attitude of tolerance and respect the difference. The highlight of this research was the role of the school in educated moderated religious attitude, especially through motivation given by the teacher. The focus of this research included with the 7th grades students’ understanding regarding moderated religious, strategy used by the teacher and the factors affect the development of moderated religious attitude. The methods used in this research is observation, interview and documents analysis. Gianyar, as an area with religious diversity, became a relevant background of this research. The researcher hoped the result of this research could give new insights and enrich the learning strategy of tolerance in school, and contributed to harmony between religious communities in Indonesia. This research used the theory of Social Learning, this theory explained about someone’s attitudes can be affected by the environment and someone’s attitudes can give impact to the environment. In this research, it was found that students’ understanding of moderated religious attitude, and it can be said still not good enough. But, as the students’ implementation, the students already implemented attitudes that shows an attitude of religious moderation. The efforts did by the teacher to improves understanding of religious moderation attitudes were by providing exemplary examples by the teacher, improving students’ understanding of religious moderation attitudes and increasing insight by reading reference books. The factors that influenced the process of developing religious moderation attitudes in 7th grades students at SMP Negeri 2 Gianyar were internal factors and external factors.
