PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER DALAM LONTAR ŚTRI SASANA

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the textual structure, character education values, and the meanings of character education contained in Lontar Śtri Sasana. This lontar is a traditional Balinese Hindu literary work in the form of geguritan that contains ethical, moral, and spiritual teachings related to human life, particularly the role of women within family and social contexts. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The primary data source was the text of Lontar Śtri Sasana, while secondary data were obtained from books, journals, and relevant previous studies. Data were collected through literature review, observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the interactive analysis model proposed by Miles and Huberman, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the structure of Lontar Śtri Sasana is systematically arranged through the use of several pupuh, including Sinom, Ginada, Pangkur, and Durma. The text structure consists of manggala (opening section), the core teachings, and phala śruti (closing section). The character education values contained in the lontar include religiosity (sraddha and bhakti), responsibility, loyalty (pati brata), honesty (satya), self-control, patience, sincerity, discipline, and work ethic. These values are conveyed through normative, symbolic, and reflective patterns based on the teachings of dharma and the law of karmaphala. The meaning of character education in Lontar Śtri Sasana emphasizes the importance of developing individuals who are morally, socially, and spiritually harmonious. Therefore, this lontar not only functions as a traditional Balinese Hindu literary heritage but also remains relevant as a source of character education based on local wisdom in addressing the challenges of modern life.
