Abstract

This study aims to describe the symbolic meanings, linguistic styles, and moral messages contained in the Balinese pop song lyrics titled “Cara Kena Bebai.” The research employs a qualitative-descriptive method with a semantic-stylistic approach, analyzing the lyrics line by line to uncover the underlying messages and cultural values. The results indicate that the lyrics convey symbolic meanings through words, phrases, and expressions that represent emotions, conflicts, and interpersonal dynamics within domestic life. Various linguistic styles are used, including simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, symbolism, parallelism, repetition, irony, realism, and assonance, to enhance the aesthetic and communicative impact of the song. The lyrics also communicate moral messages about the importance of effective communication, emotional control, prudence toward gossip, and the maintenance of household harmony. This study presents a novelty in Balinese literary research by analyzing contemporary pop song lyrics as the research object, rather than classical texts or paribasa. By combining the analysis of symbolic meaning and stylistic features, it provides insights into how emotional conflicts, moral values, and local wisdom are represented in modern popular language. Moreover, it highlights the social and cultural aspects of Balinese society reflected in the lyrics, expanding the methodological scope of contemporary Balinese literary studies and offering new perspectives on the representation of living culture in modern musical works.
