Abstract

This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed at improving
students' understanding of Balinese script, particularly the Wianjana script, and
improving learning outcomes through the application of an ice-breaking method
based on the educational game Bingo Balinese Script. The subjects were 32 third-
grade students at SD Negeri 4 Sumerta. The study was conducted in two cycles,
each consisting of two meetings, encompassing the planning, implementation,
observation, and reflection stages. Based on the explanation above, several
research questions can be formulated: (1) How is the ice-breaking method applied
to Balinese script learning?; (2) How effective is Balinese language learning using
the ice-breaking method?; (3) Is the ice-breaking method able to improve the
learning outcomes of third-grade students at SD Negeri 4 Sumerta?
The results of this study indicate an increase in student learning outcomes after
using the ice-breaking method. In cycle I, the average student score was 76.41,
with a learning completion rate of 75%. In cycle II, the average student score
increased to 84.92, with 100% learning completion. Furthermore, the effectiveness
of learning Balinese script using the ice-breaking method was demonstrated by the
increase from cycle I to cycle II. This was evident from the observation results of
cycle I, which was only 70.81, and after an increase in cycle II, it was only 81.81.
The ice-breaking method has been proven to create learning experiences
and increase student interest in learning. Therefore, the ice-breaking method
should be used as an alternative learning strategy, particularly in local content
learning, as a means to promote Balinese script as a cultural heritage in
elementary schools.
