The issue of women has consistently remained a central theme of discussion and continues to open up spaces for discourse that have yet to reach a definitive conclusion. The representation of women in traditional literary works, such as kidung, plays a crucial role in reflecting the dynamics of women’s experiences in contemporary contexts. This collective process thus holds significant importance within academic discourse, particularly through the lens of feminism. This study aims to analyze the roles and positions of female characters in Kidung Waseng Sari through the perspective of Marxist feminist literary theory. This approach is employed to reveal the interrelation between socio-economic structures, women’s social status, and their manifestation within the narrative text. The research adopts a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical presentation, producing interpretative findings based on the theoretical framework applied to uncover the meanings embedded in the representation of female characters. The results indicate that the roles of women in Kidung Waseng Sari are strongly influenced by their social status and class as portrayed in the narrative. This finding demonstrates that the socio-cultural system represented in the text profoundly shapes the lives and identities of the female characters within it.
