Writing on lontar palms is one of the cultural heritages of our ancestors. In the educational environment, especially in Bali, writing on lontar palms is implied in Balinese language learning or extracurricular activities. The aim is to maintain the arts and local culture. At SMP Negeri 1 Semarapura, the existence of the extracurricular writing on lontar palms is still maintained until now. At SMP Negeri 1 Semarapura, teachers have the right method to teach writing on lontar palms, namely the imitation and drill methods. This method provides quite satisfying real results. So the researcher is very interested in researching this method with the hope that the results of this paper can provide solutions to educators, especially in Bali, in learning to write on lontar palms.
The formulation of the problem of this study is as follows, (1) How is the use of imitation and drill methods in lontar writing training for students of SMP Negeri 1 Semarapura, (2) What are the problems and efforts made when using imitation and drill methods for students of SMP Negeri 1 Semarapura, (3) What are the results of using imitation and drill methods for students of SMP Negeri 1 Semarapura. This study uses a qualitative approach with observation, interview, documentation, and literature techniques. The results of the study indicate that the use of imitation and drill methods provides an increase in the quality of learning and students' abilities in lontar writing.
