The development of digital technology has transformed adolescents’ communication patterns, particularly in building relationships, expressing identity, seeking information, and participating in online communities. However, adolescents’ online activities also create several risks, including cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content, social pressure, privacy violations, and excessive screen use. In this context, the family has an important role as the closest communication environment that can guide adolescents in using digital platforms safely and responsibly. This article aims to examine family communication strategies in supporting adolescents’ engagement with social media. This study employed a literature review method with a descriptive-qualitative approach. The analysis was conducted on 18 relevant sources consisting of scientific journal articles, official reports, and supporting academic documents published within the 2017–2026 period. The literature was selected through identification, screening, content review, and thematic classification based on its relevance to family communication, adolescent digital behavior, cyberbullying, digital literacy, and parental mediation. The findings show that family guidance can be implemented through open dialogue, shared rule-making, digital literacy education, parental role modeling, active assistance, interpretive mediation, and proportional restrictions. These strategies indicate that parental guidance should not rely solely on control or prohibition, but should be developed through continuous, educational, participatory, and empathetic communication. Through appropriate communication patterns, families can help adolescents become more critical, ethical, and responsible digital users.
