Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of freedom of speech on Twitter as part of the transformation of the digital public sphere through the lens of philosophy of technology. Social media, particularly Twitter, has become an open space that enables broad public participation, while simultaneously presenting challenges such as the spread of hoaxes, hate speech, and emotional conflicts. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a reflective-analytical approach based on the thoughts of Jürgen Habermas, Jacques Ellul, and Martin Heidegger. The analysis reveals that Twitter, rather than serving as a rational forum for discourse, often functions as an attention economy driven by algorithms, virality, and technical impressions. The dominance of technical logic over ethical and humanistic values creates a paradox between freedom and chaos, ultimately weakening the foundation of digital democracy. Therefore, fostering critical awareness and ethical literacy in social media use is essential to ensure a healthy, rational, and inclusive digital public space.
