Abstract

Banten daksina in the religious life of the Balinese Hindu community generally uses duck eggs. However, the Daksina offerings found in Pedawa Village, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency do not use duck eggs, but palm sugar. This is unusual, unique and interesting to study in more depth, especially since the people of Pedawa Village have a culture that is typical of the Bali Aga. This article aims to explore the various meanings contained in palm sugar as a philosophical basis for its use in sacred offerings. Understanding the philosophical meaning of palm sugar in banten daksina has an urgency to carry out considering that the use of palm sugar is not common among Balinese people in general, and is prone to being misunderstood. For the people of Pedawa Village, palm sugar is a sattwika cultural product, because it is produced through a sacred traditional process. By understanding the philosophical meaning of palm sugar, it is hoped that we can increase our knowledge of the socio-cultural aspects typical of the Bali Aga community.
