Filosofi Bale Gambang di Desa Adat Ulian, Kecamatan Kintamani, Kabupaten Bangli

Abstract

This study examines the philosophical dimensions of the Bale Gambang in Desa Adat Ulian, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency. Bale Gambang is a sacred traditional structure that plays a pivotal role in the religious and socio-cultural life of the local community. Amidst the challenges of modernization, understanding its architectural form, functions, and philosophical meanings is essential to preserving the cultural and religious values embedded within it. This research aims to describe the architectural form of the Bale Gambang, analyze its functions within community life, and elucidate the philosophical meanings it embodies. Adopting a qualitative approach through a cultural philosophy perspective, data were gathered via observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The collected data were subsequently analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion-drawing techniques. To provide a comprehensive analysis, this study applied Koentjaraningrat’s Cultural Theory to examine the form of the Bale Gambang, Malinowski’s Functionalism Theory to analyze its functions, and Notonagoro’s Axiological Theory of Values to interpret its philosophical meanings. The findings indicate that the Bale Gambang serves as a tangible manifestation of the cultural heritage of Desa Adat Ulian, constructed in accordance with traditional values and customary regulations (dresta) passed down through generations. Furthermore, it fulfills vital religious, social, cultural preservation, and educational functions. Ultimately, the Bale Gambang embodies profound religious, ethical, aesthetic, and cultural values that reflect a harmonious relationship between humans, society, and the spiritual realm.
