Overthinking is a condition where a person thinks excessively about something continuously over a long period of time. Overthinking is also called rumination. Rumination is a thinking method for dealing with problems that have occurred which tend to be negative. Rumination or overthinking that continues and is not treated will result in psychological disorders. Overthinking or rumination can be experienced by anyone, including students. One effort to deal with this is with pranayama nadi sodhana. Pranayama nadi sodhana is part of the practice of yoga which uses smooth breathing techniques with the right and left nostrils alternately. This pranayama technique can be practiced by novice practitioners with gradual practice. The aim of this research was to examine the effect of pranayama nadi sodhana practice on handling overthinking in students at the Faculty of Dharma Duta UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar.
This research is quantitative research with a quasi experimental method. This quasi-experimental research design uses a nonequivalent control group design. The sample was determined using an accidental sampling technique with a total of 32 people, of which 16 people were for the experimental group and 16 people were for the control group who came from students at the Faculty of Dharma Duta UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar. Dependent variable data collection used the RRS 10 (Ruminative Response Scale) questionnaire. The independent variable of this research is the practice of pranayama nadi sodhana. Data analysis testing uses paired sample T test and independent sample T test.
The research results showed that based on the paired sample T test, there was an increase in overthinking or rumination scores in the control group who did not practice nadi sodhana pranayama, while the experimental group experienced a decrease in overthinking or rumination scores after practicing nadi sodhana pranayama. If we look at the results of the independent sample T test for the experimental group and the control group, a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05 is obtained, so it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that there is an influence of Nadi Sodhana pranayama practice on overthinking in students. Faculty of Dharma Duta UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar.
